A short review of the game Trauma

Dream. Most people spend almost a third of their lives on this simple activity. But what happens during sleep?? Perhaps a person’s soul leaves mortal flesh and goes to other worlds, upon returning leaving only vague pictures and images from this journey? Or the mind frees itself from the shackles of logic and the framework of existence and begins to create its own worlds, filling them with the most diverse and unprecedented content? Or maybe our dreams are just a game of imagination created by our brain in order to somehow fill the eight-hour gap? No one will give you the exact answer, because no one knows it.

The heroine, fortunately, survived, but was taken to the hospital. There she began to have strange dreams, woven from half-forgotten memories of the past, helping her survive the death of her parents; solving them is the main task of the game. The controls are implemented by gestures and to learn them, you need to find training photographs scattered throughout the level. But besides pictures with “gestures”, there are others scattered throughout the levels from the heroine’s past. The girl comments not only on the pictures she found, but also on almost every location and every object that her gaze falls on.

Trauma contains only four levels, an indie project after all, each with one riddle, after solving which we are shown a short but wonderfully choreographed video. In addition, each dream has not one, but several endings, but to find them, you need to look at each photo very carefully. Yes, that’s right, exactly a photograph, because the whole project is stylized as a selection of images of places that have some significance for our patient, all this was done very stylishly, of high quality and fresh, because this has never happened before. The tasks are very diverse, from rescuing an old teddy bear from childhood, crushed by the burden of growing up, to a mysterious ghost wandering in an endless maze of streets.

It’s hard to say what exactly the developers wanted to teach with their game. The fact that, despite any difficulties, a person should continue to live a full life, and not “get hung up” on what happened? Or show us that human memories, both positive and negative, are of great importance in our lives. After all, the positive moments of the past help to overcome the hardships of worldly existence in the present, and the bad ones help not to repeat the mistakes made that brought pain and suffering. Memories make us who we are. But, if you thought that “Trauma” would appeal only to lovers of deep thoughts, then you were mistaken. Even shoot-and-kill gamers like myself will enjoy the interesting, dramatic visual style, simple gameplay, and great music. And the introductory video will simply rivet your eyes to the monitor and, despite its apparent simplicity, make you empathize with what happened.

Before us is a small, beautiful, stylish, interesting, smart game and, on top of that, seasoned with simply excellent musical accompaniment. The beauty of such games is that everyone sees something different in it, everyone decides for themselves what conclusions to draw from what they see. And it’s just wonderful.
